VM Trophy: Odisha take lead vs Assam

As many as 18 wickets fell in a day as Odisha took the first-innings lead on the opening day of their three-day Vijay Merchant Trophy U-16 East Zone match against Assam at Nurul Amin Stadium in Nagaon today. Odisha were 101 for eight at stumps after bundling out host Assam for a paltry 74.

Opting to bat, Assam were in dire straits, losing three wickets for 18 runs. They never recovered from the early setbacks and folded up in 38 overs. Bikash Naik was the most successful bowler for Odisha, taking four wickets for 12 runs. Odisha batsmen also struggled on the wicket and the visitors lost wickets in regular intervals. However, a fighting knock of 34 by Binayak Mohanty and 26 by captain Surya Mohapatra enabled Odisha take the lead.
