Ranji match: Dhuper, Senapati hit fifties

After conceding a first-innings lead of 241 runs, Odisha were 237 for four in the second essay at the close of penultimate day of their four-day Ranji Trophy Group-C match against host Madhya Pradesh at Holkar Stadium in Indore today. Subhranshu Senapati and Shantanu Mishra were batting on 78 and 10 respectively when stumps were drawn for the day. Odisha now trail by four runs with six wickets in hand.

Odisha put up much improved batting performance in the second innings, compared to their first-innings total of 147. Resuming at the overnight score of 18 for no loss, they compiled 219 runs in the day, losing four wickets in the process. This was possible thanks to a half-century each by opener Rajesh Dhuper and middle-order batsman Subhranshu Senapati. The former hit a patient 88 (260 ball, 10x4) to notch up his third first-class half-century, while the latter stayed on course for third first-class century.

Dhuper and Ranjit gave Odisha modest start, putting on 70 runs for the opening wicket. The former consolidated the innings, adding 120 runs for the third-wicket partnership with Senapati. The latter faced 169 balls for his unbeaten 78, which was studded with 11 hits to the rope.
