Senapati hits ton in Ranji match vs Baroda

Cuttack, Nov 19, 2017 (Team OCA):

An unbeaten century by Subhranshu Senapati and a half-century by Biplab Samantaray kept Odisha's hope alive for the first-innings lead in their four-day Ranji Trophy Group-C match against host Baroda at Reliance Cricket Stadium in Vadodara (Gujarat) today.

In reply to a massive first-innings total of 503 by Baroda, Odisha were 316 for five at stumps on the penultimate day with Senapati going strong on 131 and Rajesh Dhuper giving him company on 13. However, Odisha still trail by 187 runs and need another 38 runs to avoid follow-on with five wickets in hand.

Resuming at the overnight score of 64 for two, Odisha batted throughout the day, compiling 252 runs for the loss of three wickets. Middle-order batsman Senapati was the star of the day, hitting an unbeaten 131 (281 balls, 18x4). This was the second first-class century for the Keonjhar batsman, who returned to form after knocks of 13, 0 and 4.

Odisha started the day with a jolt as opener Natraj Behera got out without adding to his overnight score of 24. But Senapati and Shantanu Mishra steadied the innings with a 103-run partnership for the fourth wicket. After Misha was dismissed for 46, Senapati and Samantaray bolstered the innings, putting on 105 runs in their fifth-wicket stand. But after notching his 16th first-class fifty and third in a row, Samantaray was dismissed for 55.
