Murali hits ton in Ranji match vs Odisha

Attractive century by Test star Murali Vijay enabled Tamil Nadu make 292 for three on the opening day of their four-day Ranji Trophy Group-C match at DRIEMS Cricket Ground, Tangi, 20kms from here today. B Indrajith and Vijay Shankar were batting on 41 and eight respectively when stumps were drawn for the day.

Opting to bat after winning the toss, Tamil Nadu suffered an early setback as captain Abhinab Mukund was run out by Dhiraj Singh for 12. But Murali and N Jagadeesan carried the team to good position with a 145-run partnership for the second wicket. Jagadeesan missed his century by 12 runs as he was caught behind by Rajesh Dhuper off the bowling of Odisha captain Govinda Poddar.

But Murali went on to make 140 before being caught and bowled by Suryakant Pradhan. He faced 273 balls and hit 15 boundaries and a six. Odisha made two changes in their team, including wicket-keeper Rajesh Dhuper and bowling allrounder Alok Sahoo in place of Saurabh Rawat and Deepak Behera.
